NUMS NRE results show only 20 percent succeed nationwide

The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has released the results of the National Registration Examination (NRE) for foreign-trained medical professionals, recording a pass rate slightly above 20 percent. The examination, conducted on December 14 under the supervision of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), was held simultaneously across various centers in Pakistan.

A total of 7,076 candidates registered for the exam, while 7,012 appeared. Of these, only 1,473 cleared the written assessment. The detailed result indicates that 1,467 medical graduates passed, reflecting a pass rate of 21.17 percent, while six dental graduates succeeded, marking a significantly lower pass rate of 7.23 percent. This performance reflects a decline compared to the previous NRE session held on June 25, which saw a higher medical pass rate of 25.26 percent.

The PMDC affirmed that the results were finalized according to standardized policies, ensuring transparency and merit-based evaluation. Candidates can now view their results on the official PMDC website using their assigned examination numbers.

Successful examinees from the NRE Step-I (written) will proceed to Step-II, the mandatory clinical evaluation. Those who clear both stages will receive provisional registration, permitting them to begin house jobs within Pakistan or pursue opportunities overseas.

In an accompanying advisory, the PMDC urged prospective students and parents to exercise caution when selecting foreign medical and dental institutions. It stressed the necessity of choosing recognized and credible educational establishments abroad, warning that enrollment in unaccredited or low-standard institutions may jeopardize professional prospects and result in considerable financial and academic loss.
