OUP Unveils New O-Level Curricula for Pakistani Students

Oxford University Press (OUP), in collaboration with the UK-based exam board AQA, has launched three new mandatory O-Level (IGCSE) subject specifications tailored specifically for Pakistani students. The initiative aims to deliver an education that is both locally relevant and globally competitive.

The newly introduced curricula cover Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, and Urdu. Designed to move beyond rote memorization, the syllabi prioritize critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective exam preparation through a clear assessment framework.

According to OUP, the updated content offers comprehensive coverage of Pakistan’s history, geography, and Islamic teachings, as well as the richness of Urdu language and literature. Written in accessible language, the material connects local topics with global developments, underlining Pakistan’s role on the international stage.

Arshad Saeed Husain, Managing Director of Oxford University Press Pakistan, highlighted the program’s forward-looking approach. “OxfordAQA is committed to fairness, transparency, and quality education, enabling learners to succeed on the world stage,” he said.

Salma Adil, Director of Oxford Pakistan, emphasized the balance between academic rigor and practical relevance. “Our goal is not only to prepare students for exams but also to give them the skills and understanding they need to thrive in a global environment,” she stated.

To complement the curricula, OUP has also launched a new series of textbooks authored by subject experts, including Islamiyat by Nighat Gaya Bajwa, Urdu by Dr Faizuddin Ahmed, and Pakistan Studies by Nigel Smith. The authors introduced the resources at the official launch event.
