Pakistan Leads OIC Effort for Inclusive Learning

Pakistan, in collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has inaugurated a specialized residential training program in Karachi aimed at equipping educators with advanced skills to teach children who are blind or deaf.

The three-month master-trainer program, jointly organized by the OIC’s ministerial committee COMSTECH and Karachi’s Ida Rieu Schools, seeks to develop a network of trained educators across OIC member nations. This second cohort includes participants from Nigeria, Uganda, Gambia, and Kenya, who will receive hands-on training in modern special education techniques.

Officials described the initiative as a landmark step toward inclusive education, one designed to break social barriers and ensure that physical impairments do not obstruct learning or career opportunities.

During the launch ceremony, COMSTECH Coordinator General proposed the establishment of a permanent OIC Training Center in Special Education at Ida Rieu, which would serve all 57 member states. The event also featured a moving performance by Ida Rieu students, symbolizing the transformative impact such programs can have in empowering individuals with disabilities.
