Pakistan’s educational diplomacy reached a defining moment at the Eurasia Higher Education Summit (EURIE) 2026 in Istanbul, where the country emerged as a confident and strategic voice in the global higher education landscape.
The summit, widely regarded as one of the most influential academic gatherings worldwide, brought together representatives from 61 countries, including over 380 universities, policymakers, and education leaders. Against this competitive international backdrop, Pakistan distinguished itself through a coordinated and forward-looking presence.
A high-level delegation led by the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) comprised 42 members representing 17 prominent universities, alongside participation from COMSTECH. The unified representation reflected increasing maturity and confidence within Pakistan’s higher education sector.
A key highlight of the summit was the keynote address by Dr Sumaira Rehman, Rector of Superior University and Commission Member of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan. As the only female keynote speaker at the inauguration, she delivered a compelling narrative on Pakistan’s academic transformation and global ambitions.
Her message that Pakistan has a compelling story to tell resonated strongly with the international audience. She stressed that while technical expertise remains critical, the future of higher education must focus on nurturing ethical and responsible leadership. Introducing the “Leading with Character” framework, she advocated for a values-driven education system that blends academic excellence with moral responsibility.
Her address was widely praised for its originality and depth, positioning Pakistan as a thought leader in shaping global education discourse.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Pakistani delegation held a high-level meeting with Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education Turkey. Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye through academic partnerships, research collaboration, and mobility programs.
Both sides explored opportunities for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and technology transfer initiatives. Prof Özvar also invited Pakistani institutions to participate in Türkiye’s 500 Research Projects Initiative, opening new pathways for deeper collaboration. The engagement was further strengthened by an invitation from APSUP leadership for a high-level Turkish academic delegation to visit Pakistan.
Pakistan’s role at the summit also drew recognition from senior representatives of Arab and Eurasian academic bodies, who appreciated the country’s constructive engagement and expressed interest in long-term institutional partnerships.
The Pakistan Pavilion remained a focal point throughout the event, attracting significant international attention and serving as a hub for dialogue. Delegations from Europe, Asia, and the Americas engaged in discussions on potential collaborations, with several Memorandums of Understanding and joint initiatives under consideration.
