Pakistan-Tajikistan Eye Expanded Medical Education Ties

Tajikistan’s First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Hoshimzoda Homid Hasan, has commended Avicenna Tajik State Medical University (ATSM) for strengthening bilateral cooperation in medical education and scientific development between Pakistan and Tajikistan. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Pakistani journalists on Sunday, he described the university as a driving force in expanding academic ties and fostering professional linkages in the health sector.

Hasan stated that collaboration in medical education and research is central to bringing both nations closer, with young professionals serving as key conduits between institutions. He noted that the two governments share a unified vision to expand partnerships in medical sciences, research, and medical tourism, identifying these sectors as catalysts for broader economic cooperation.

To advance this agenda, he confirmed that Pakistan and Tajikistan are moving toward finalizing a memorandum of understanding to facilitate student and faculty exchanges. According to Hasan, the agreement is expected to enhance institutional connectivity and open pathways for increased academic mobility.

He further emphasized the role of media in shaping public awareness of emerging educational and health sector opportunities. By amplifying such initiatives, he said, the media can encourage greater participation in cross-border collaboration and nurture long-term understanding between the two countries.

Highlighting Tajikistan’s expanding appeal as a medical education destination, Hasan noted that the country is attracting students from multiple neighboring states due to its alignment with international standards, modern clinical facilities, and growing medical tourism offerings. He pointed to advancements in specialized treatments, advanced surgical procedures, and healthcare infrastructure as evidence of this progress.

The visiting delegation was led by Dr Muhammad Abbas Mahar, Chief Executive Officer of MBBS Abroad Private Consultancy Pvt Limited. Dr Mahar shared that ATSM currently enrolls approximately 450 Pakistani medical students, reflecting rising academic exchange volumes and Tajikistan’s growing presence in the regional education landscape. He also underscored the country’s potential in wellness and therapeutic tourism, citing numerous sanatoriums and resorts offering mineral baths, mud therapies, herbal treatments, and rehabilitation services.
