In a major step toward deepening bilateral cooperation, Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration in the education and research sectors. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and Xinjiang University.
The signing ceremony, held at Xinjiang University in Urumqi, symbolizes a new era of academic engagement between the two nations. Representing Pakistan, PIDE Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Nadeem Javed attended the event, emphasizing the importance of strengthening institutional and intellectual linkages.
Under the newly signed MoU, both institutions will undertake joint research projects on areas of mutual interest, facilitate faculty and student exchanges, and promote capacity-building and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The collaboration also aligns with broader strategic frameworks such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), underscoring education as a key pillar of long-term cooperation.
Dr Javed described the agreement as a “milestone” that will enhance educational and research ties between Pakistan and China, fostering deeper people-to-people connections and shared development goals.
“This partnership will not only advance academic collaboration but also strengthen our mutual understanding and cooperation under CPEC and BRI,” Dr Javed remarked.
