The Virtual University of Pakistan has officially launched the distribution of laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme (Phase-IV) 2025, marking a significant step toward promoting digital inclusion and academic excellence in the country. The inauguration ceremony was held at the university’s Head Office in Islamabad, where 2,475 laptops are set to be distributed among eligible students in multiple phases.
The ceremony was attended by Ms Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, as the Chief Guest, while Ms Rabia Naseem Farooqi, Parliamentary Secretary of the same ministry, graced the occasion as Guest of Honor.
Addressing the gathering, Rector Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood highlighted the transformative impact of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, stating that access to modern technology plays a vital role in enhancing students’ learning experiences and academic performance. He acknowledged the continued support of the ministry in advancing digital education across Pakistan.
Ms. Wajiha Qamar, in her remarks, praised the role of the Virtual University in providing accessible and technology-driven education. She reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping students with modern tools to strengthen their academic and professional capacities in an increasingly digital world.
Ms. Rabia Naseem Farooqi congratulated the selected students and encouraged them to use the laptops effectively to enhance their digital skills and contribute to national development. She emphasized the importance of utilizing technology for constructive and educational purposes.
Registrar Prof. Dr. Ather Azim Khan informed participants that the entire selection and distribution process has been conducted strictly on merit, in accordance with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission. He stressed that transparency and fairness were maintained throughout the process and advised students to use the laptops responsibly to strengthen their research and academic capabilities.
The university confirmed that the distribution process will continue over several working days to ensure smooth and transparent allocation. Following the Islamabad ceremony, laptops will also be distributed at the university’s M.A. Jinnah Campus in Lahore and other designated centers nationwide.
