Punjab New College Policy Gets Tough on Low Achievers

The Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab has introduced a stringent new academic policy for government colleges aimed at improving student performance, attendance, and accountability. The move marks one of the most comprehensive overhauls of college regulations in recent years.

According to the revised guidelines, students receiving an “F” grade in two or more subjects will no longer be promoted to the next academic level. The department stated that this measure is intended to ensure students acquire the necessary academic competence before advancing in their studies.

In addition to performance standards, the new policy imposes fines to discourage absenteeism and exam skipping. Students who miss a main examination paper will face a fine of Rs. 200, while those absent from monthly tests will be fined Rs. 100. Any student absent without a valid medical certificate will automatically be marked as failed in that subject.

The HED has also made it compulsory for all students to participate in monthly tests, December exams, and pre-board examinations. The rules will apply uniformly across all government colleges in Punjab to establish a consistent framework of discipline and academic rigor.
