Punjab Overhauls LPR Process for Teachers

The Punjab Education Department has introduced revised procedures aimed at accelerating the processing of Leave Preparatory to Retirement (LPR) cases for teachers, while enforcing stricter compliance and accountability at the district level.

Under the new mandatory system, LPR applications will only be entertained if submitted with a complete and fully verified set of documents. Officials clarified that any incomplete or deficient case will be returned immediately without being processed, a move intended to eliminate delays caused by repeated corrections and resubmissions.

As part of the updated framework, each application must now include a properly filled checklist, formal verification of all supporting documents by the concerned District Education Officer or Chief Executive Officer, and clear, case-specific recommendations from the relevant officers.

Teachers applying for LPR are required to attach their service book, appointment and promotion orders, recent salary slips, and a complete record of leave availed throughout their service. The department stressed that the accuracy and completeness of these documents are essential for timely approval.

The Education Department has also underscored accountability, warning that district officers will be held responsible for avoidable delays in processing LPR cases. Officials said the new measures are designed to ensure transparency, reduce administrative bottlenecks, and provide retiring teachers with timely relief as they transition out of service.
