In a major relief for educators, the Punjab government has abolished the three-year mandatory service condition for teachers applying for transfers to their native districts.
Under the previous policy, teachers were required to serve at least three years at their initial posting before they could request relocation on the grounds of returning closer to home. With this restriction lifted, eligible teachers can now seek transfers without the waiting period, a move widely welcomed by the teaching community.
The Education Department has also announced the timeline for the ongoing transfer process, which will be conducted entirely through the online portal. Teachers may submit applications under the open merit category until September 28. Application verification will be completed by October 4, and transfer orders are scheduled for issuance on October 15.

The reform is aimed at reducing the personal and logistical challenges faced by teachers, allowing many to secure postings nearer to their families. Officials believe the policy shift will boost morale and contribute to a more motivated and satisfied workforce in the province’s education sector.
