Punjab Rolls Out Paid Internship Program for 8,000 Teachers

The Punjab government has greenlit a landmark initiative worth Rs4.217 billion to strengthen college education across the province. The newly sanctioned College Teaching Interns (CTI) project aims to enhance teaching capacity by hiring 8,000 interns who will receive monthly stipends based on their teaching assignments. Those teaching at the intermediate level will earn Rs55,000 per month, while interns at the graduate level will receive Rs65,000.

The project also reflects the government’s commitment to inclusion, with reserved quotas for minorities (404 seats), the disabled (243 seats), and the transgender community (40 seats). Upon completion of the internship, all participants will receive official experience certificates to aid their future career prospects.

Simultaneously, the Punjab government is fast-tracking the expansion of its School Outsourcing Program, targeting low-enrollment institutions. The upcoming Phase-III, set for December, will see 2,500 additional schools with fewer than 100 students handed over to private sector operators. This brings the province closer to its goal of outsourcing 13,000 schools by the end of the year.
