Punjab to Reassign 46000 Surplus Teachers – Govt Aims to Save Billions with New Policy
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced on Friday that over 46,000 school teachers in the province are currently surplus, leading to significant financial losses for the government.
During a high-level meeting, the minister revealed that these excess teachers are posted across 27,000 schools in Punjab, creating an imbalance in the student-teacher ratio. He directed officials to expedite the implementation of the Rationalization Policy to address the issue.
Key Highlights:
- 27,000 surplus teachers will be transferred to 33,000 understaffed schools across Punjab.
- 20,948 extra teachers are deployed in 13,000 primary schools, though only 23,648 are needed for 13,846 schools.
- 12,533 surplus teachers are working in 5,930 elementary schools, against a requirement of 18,017 for 15,884 schools.
