The University of Sargodha marked World Food Day 2025 and hosted a professional readiness session on the same day, highlighting its dual commitment to social responsibility and student development. Both events reflected the university’s proactive approach to addressing global and local challenges through education, awareness, and community engagement.
The Institute of Food Science and Nutrition organized an awareness walk, seminar, and poster competition under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.” Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas led the walk as chief guest, accompanied by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Sarwar Awan, faculty members, industry representatives, and students. Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas underscored the urgency of transforming food systems to tackle climate change, resource scarcity, and population growth. He stressed the need for science-driven innovations and responsible consumption to ensure a sustainable food future.
At the subsequent seminar held in MFKNBS Hall, Director Dr Main Anjum Murtaza emphasized the role of resilient and inclusive food systems in achieving sustainable development. Guest speaker Prof Dr Muhammad Shahid from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad highlighted the nutritional importance of local foods and indigenous crops, while Ms Zaib-un-Nisa from Nutrition International discussed the long-term health impacts of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies. The event concluded with a poster competition where students creatively presented ideas on food security, sustainability, and nutrition awareness.
Meanwhile, the Career Development Center (CDC) of the University of Sargodha, in collaboration with the Zakat Foundation of America, Pakistan, organized an awareness session titled “Transitioning from Student Life to Professional Career” at the Malik Feroz Khan Noon Business School Auditorium. The session aimed to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to excel in professional life.
HEC-certified master trainer and entrepreneur Dr Mohsin Zahid conducted the session, offering insights into communication, adaptability, ethics, and personal branding. He encouraged students to identify their strengths, enhance practical skills, and pursue continuous learning to thrive in the evolving job market. His interactive approach resonated strongly with attendees.
In his closing remarks, Prof Dr Ahmad Raza Bilal, Director ORIC, appreciated the collaboration with the Zakat Foundation and praised Dr Zahid’s motivational address. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to bridging academia and industry through practical learning initiatives. Career Development Officer Masooma Zahra announced that the CDC will continue organizing similar sessions to foster employability and leadership skills among students.
