Shifa University Hosts Graduation for Gaza Students

Shifa College of Medicine at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) hosted a graduation and award distribution ceremony on Monday, May 4, 2026, honouring medical students from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) whose education was disrupted due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for students who demonstrated resilience and determination in continuing their medical education under challenging circumstances. Thirteen students have successfully completed their remaining studies at Shifa College of Medicine, while 20 others are currently pursuing their courses.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Iqbal Khan highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and humanitarian responsibility. The Chief Guest, Prof Dr Zia ul Haq, shared insights into the role of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan in facilitating continued education for students affected by crises.

Guest of Honour Dr Hafeez ur Rehman underscored ongoing collaborative efforts to support displaced students. The event also featured virtual addresses from Dr Anwar Sheikh Khalil and Dr Ahmed Maher, representing the Islamic University of Gaza, who expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support.

Dean Faculty of Health Sciences Prof Dr Mohammed Amir delivered the vote of thanks, while Prof. Abida Shaheen presented the welcome note. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Prof Dr Fahad Azam.

Faculty members reflected on the students’ journey and praised their perseverance and commitment to the medical profession. The contributions of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan were also acknowledged for supporting the continuation of medical education for displaced students.

The ceremony highlighted the vital role of academic institutions in ensuring uninterrupted education during crises while reinforcing values of professionalism, compassion, and service.
