Sindh Launches Major Reforms for Hyderabad Colleges

In a landmark step toward uplifting educational standards, the Sindh government has unveiled a comprehensive reform package for public colleges in the Hyderabad region. The initiative focuses on modernizing the curriculum, restoring damaged infrastructure, and reviving students’ interest in reading through mandatory daily library sessions.

The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Colleges Nadeem Ur Rehman Memon, attended by Director General Colleges Navaid Rab Siddiqui, Regional Director Colleges Hyderabad Mustafa Kamal, and several college principals.

A central feature of the reform plan is the revision of the current curriculum to align with modern academic and professional requirements. Secretary Memon stressed the importance of reinstating daily library classes to strengthen students’ comprehension, research, and vocabulary skills.

“With over 104,000 students across 72 government colleges, this initiative aims to cultivate critical thinking and a culture of reading among youth,” he said.

The meeting also addressed urgent infrastructure concerns. The Education Works Department has been directed to begin immediate restoration of 12 colleges severely damaged by recent rains. The repairs will include rebuilding classrooms, boundary walls, and other key facilities to ensure safe and conducive learning spaces.

To promote holistic student development, the department also announced the revival of co-curricular and sports programs. An Inter-College Sports Week has been scheduled for December to foster teamwork, leadership, and engagement among students.
