The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has introduced a sweeping environmental policy, officially banning all plastic and hazardous disposable materials across its campuses. The initiative marks a significant step in the institution’s sustainability agenda and forms a central component of its broader reform strategy.
Under the new policy, UET has prohibited the use, sale, and distribution of multiple polluting items, including plastic bags under 75 microns, styrofoam plates, food containers, cups, plastic glasses, and other substandard disposable products. The university has announced a zero-tolerance framework to ensure full compliance with the ban.
All food outlets, cafes, juice points, general stores, and on-campus shops have been ordered to immediately shift toward environmentally friendly alternatives. Authorities have mandated the complete removal of banned items from commercial operations within university premises.
UET spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb affirmed that strict punitive measures will be taken against violators. She stated that non-compliance would result in heavy fines and severe penalties for individuals or vendors attempting to bypass the regulations. According to her, the crackdown will remain uncompromising to safeguard the success of the initiative and reinforce environmental responsibility at all institutional levels.
