UMT and LDA Partner to Shape Sustainable Urban Future

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) have agreed on a strategic collaboration to strengthen urban development, planning and architectural innovation, with a focus on building modern and sustainable cities.

The understanding was reached during a visit by LDA Vice Chairman Mian Marghoob Ahmed to UMT, where he held a detailed meeting with former minister for local government and President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad. The discussions centered on joint initiatives in urban planning, infrastructure development, academic research and practical collaboration.

Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim Hasan Murad said that the integration of education and urban development is essential for creating sustainable and people-centric cities. He stressed that effective urban planning cannot be achieved without research-driven policies, innovation and the availability of well-trained human resources, adding that practical and sustainable measures are urgently needed to address growing urban challenges.

Mian Marghoob Ahmed later visited the UMT School of Architecture and Planning, where he reviewed academic and research facilities. He appreciated UMT’s role in national development and noted that institutions like UMT are contributing meaningfully to modern urban planning and policy formulation. He said closer collaboration between academic institutions and development authorities can help cities adapt to future needs in a sustainable manner.
