UMT and PNWC Host Conference on Global Security Challenges

The University of Management and Technology (UMT), in collaboration with the Pakistan Navy War College (PNWC), successfully concluded a two-day international conference titled “Traditional and Non-Traditional Threats in a Transforming World.” The event brought together leading scholars, defense experts, and policymakers to discuss evolving global and regional security challenges.

Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, Chief of Staff Pakistan Navy, served as the Chief Guest, while UMT President Ibrahim Hasan Murad graced the occasion as a distinguished guest. Prominent figures including Provost UMT Dr. Asghar Zaidi, Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hassan, Prof. Dr. Saeed Shafqat, DG Ahmad Abdullah, Prof. Abid Sherwani, and Dr. Usman Askari also participated.

Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz and President Ibrahim Hasan Murad held a meeting to discuss mutual cooperation in education and national security. The two dignitaries later planted a sapling at UMT, symbolizing growth and sustainability.

In his keynote address, Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz lauded UMT and the Pakistan Navy War College for successfully organizing the conference. He urged the youth to equip themselves with knowledge, skills, and vision to meet the challenges of an increasingly digital and globalized world. He emphasized that patriotism extends beyond the battlefield and is reflected in professional integrity, excellence, and sincere contributions to national progress.

President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest and paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in defending the nation. He highlighted the Navy’s critical role in securing Pakistan’s maritime interests, noting that nearly 90% of the country’s trade depends on the Arabian Sea. Murad stressed that tackling non-traditional threats requires intellectual preparedness, regional cooperation, and institutional strength, adding that Pakistan’s youth stand firmly with the Armed Forces to safeguard the nation’s future.

Provost Dr. Asghar Zaidi welcomed the delegates and outlined UMT’s vision of fostering academic excellence and national awareness. He said the conference aimed to deepen understanding of emerging global threats and to engage young minds in the discourse on national security.

Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hassan shared insights on strengthening Pakistan’s defense posture, while Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, in his virtual address, discussed regional dynamics and offered practical policy recommendations.

The conference concluded with a souvenir presentation ceremony, where President Ibrahim Hasan Murad honored Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz and other distinguished guests for their valuable contributions.
