The University of Management and Technology (UMT) on Wednesday hosted the 7th Khurram Murad Memorial Lecture, featuring internationally renowned scholar Professor Dr Ziauddin Sardar as the chief guest, who delivered a thought-provoking address on Islamic thought, contemporary intellectual challenges and the crises confronting Muslim societies in the modern world.
President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad attended the event and highlighted the enduring intellectual legacy of Khurram Murad (RA), describing him as a towering figure whose ideas continue to guide the Muslim Ummah. He said Khurram Murad (RA) played a pivotal role in fostering serious, constructive and meaningful dialogue between Islam and the West, with a clear mission to reform Muslim society in the light of Islamic principles.
Addressing the audience, Ibrahim Hasan Murad emphasized that Khurram Murad (RA) made remarkable contributions to the moral and intellectual development of youth. He stressed that educational institutions must function as centers of intellectual leadership, noting that the complex challenges facing the Muslim Ummah cannot be addressed without sustained academic inquiry and informed intellectual discourse.
In his keynote lecture, Professor Dr. Ziauddin Sardar paid rich tribute to Khurram Murad (RA), describing him as a compassionate thinker who deeply felt the suffering of humanity. He said Murad’s message remains profoundly relevant in an age marked by intellectual confusion, moral uncertainty and global crises.
Dr. Sardar spoke at length on post-modernism and what he termed “post-normal times,” examining the position of Muslims within rapidly shifting global realities. He noted that educational systems and geopolitical frameworks are undergoing deep penetration and transformation, altering long-established paradigms of governance and societal organization. He argued that the collapse of global systems has undermined fundamental human rights and freedom of opinion.
Referring to current global conflicts, Dr. Sardar expressed grave concern over the situation in Gaza, describing it as a second Holocaust occurring despite the long-held global commitment to the principle of “Never Again.”
