UMT Marks 76th National Day of China with Seminar

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) held a special seminar and scholarship distribution ceremony to celebrate the 76th National Day of the People’s Republic of China, bringing together diplomats, academics, and students for a day of reflection on Pakistan–China friendship.

Mr Zhao Deng Yu, Director of Chinese Consular Affairs, attended as Chief Guest and praised the longstanding academic, cultural, and research collaboration between China and UMT. He described Pakistan as a true brotherly nation and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors. He also commended UMT’s efforts to promote Chinese language and culture on campus.

Provost Dr Asghar Zaidi highlighted the unwavering nature of Pakistan–China relations, which he said are anchored in trust, cooperation, and mutual respect. He stressed the importance of deeper academic partnerships between institutions in both countries to foster research, innovation, and long-term collaboration.

Chairperson of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Dr Usman Askari, described the Pakistan–China friendship as “deeper than the ocean and sweeter than honey,” noting that UMT’s initiatives in language learning, cultural exchange, and academic cooperation are helping to forge closer ties.

The Chinese delegation expressed appreciation for UMT’s expanding Chinese language programs, cultural activities, and research-driven collaborations.

As part of the ceremony, scholarships worth PKR 1 million were awarded to students of the Department of Political Science and International Relations by Mr Zhao Deng Yu.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating China’s 76th National Day and the presentation of souvenirs to distinguished guests by Provost Dr Asghar Zaidi.
