UMT to Launch Shri Guru Nanak Scholarships for Sikh Students

Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs, Ramesh Singh Arora, recently met with former Provincial Minister and President of the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Ibrahim Hasan Murad, to discuss various educational and religious initiatives. The meeting emphasized the establishment of the Baba Guru Nanak Chair and the launch of Shri Guru Nanak Scholarships for Sikh students at UMT.

During the discussion, Minister Arora highlighted his long-standing association with UMT and praised the institution’s contributions to education. He paid tribute to UMT’s late founder, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, recognizing his visionary leadership and contributions to higher education. He also commended the current leadership of Ibrahim Hasan Murad, stating that UMT continues to create a unique identity in the academic sector under his stewardship.

Ibrahim Hasan Murad, in response, applauded the Punjab government’s initiatives for religious minorities. He praised Minister Arora for his role as a “peace ambassador” in promoting social harmony and religious tolerance. Murad emphasized that providing quality education to minority students could significantly improve their lives and contribute to the country’s development.

The discussion also touched upon interfaith harmony, with Murad underscoring the shared values between Islam and Sikhism, both of which advocate humanity and love. He proposed inviting the global Sikh community to celebrate the Baisakhi festival and suggested developing Kartarpur as a model city for Sikh pilgrims, enhancing religious tourism in Pakistan.

The meeting concluded with Ibrahim Hasan Murad presenting a souvenir to Minister Ramesh Singh Arora, symbolizing the commitment to continued collaboration in education and religious harmony.
