The 5th Deans and Directors conference with a central theme of “Creating Impact with CPEC” was held under the aegis of National Business Education and Accreditation Council (NBEAC) in Karachi on the 5th and 6th of February. The purpose of the conference was to understand the balance and harmony required between international paradigms and the need to tailor business education in accordance with local requirements.
The conference that began at Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi on Monday was presided over by NBEAC Chairperson Dr Hasan Sohaib, while Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair was the chief guest.
During his address, Zubair said the accomplishment of the CPEC project could be ensured by the committed interest of all stakeholders in our country, including academia, political parties, private and public organisations.
He emphasised the importance of conference’s focus on CPEC and stated that it would produce a discussion pertaining to the evolving situation of Pakistan’s economy and multifaceted relationships in South Asia. Zubair also added that the conference would connect business education in Pakistan with CPEC and lead to progress in the long run.
HEC Chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said that business education could mediate between va1rious stakeholders in the region and help the formation of executable economic policies, which would potentially map the socio-economic future of Pakistan.
Other prominent international speakers at the conference included US Global Business School Networks Chief Executive Officer Stephen Saaca, Fudan University School of Management Associate Dean Prof Zhiwen Yin and EFMD Director Projects Dr Christopher Terrasse.
A number of panel discussions were held over the course of the conference over various issues, including ‘Collaboration with Chinese Business Schools’. The panel included Prof Dr Lai Desheng (dean of Business School at Beijing Normal University), Prof Zhiwen Yin (Fudan University School of Management associate dean), Prof Frank Y-H Ying (National Taiwan Normal University Business Administration dean) and Prof Dr Guo Xuetang (International Strategy and Policy Analysis director at Shanghai University).
