Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced free Matric education for students belonging to the Tribal Districts, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) as part of its commitment to expanding educational opportunities in Pakistan’s underserved regions.
The initiative is designed to ensure that children from remote and economically disadvantaged areas have access to quality education, enabling them to pursue academic success and contribute to the country’s development.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood said that no child should be denied education because of financial hardship or geographical limitations. He stated that providing equal educational opportunities remains central to the university’s academic and social mission.
He said AIOU has consistently introduced special initiatives to support students from regions where access to education is limited. Offering free Matric education to students from the Tribal Districts, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan is one of the university’s flagship welfare programmes, allowing thousands of deserving students to continue their education without financial burden.
Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood described the initiative as a significant contribution to promoting educational equity and social inclusion across Pakistan. He emphasized that investing in the education of children from marginalized communities is an investment in the country’s future, reaffirming the university’s resolve to ensure that no deserving student is deprived of education due to financial or geographical challenges.
The Vice Chancellor also announced that admissions for the Autumn 2026 semester are now open for a wide range of academic programmes, from Matric to PhD level. He encouraged students from the Tribal Districts, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan to take full advantage of the free Matric education programme and continue their academic journey through AIOU.
