The School Education Department (SED) Balochistan has unveiled a major curriculum overhaul for the upcoming academic year, introducing sweeping reforms across all grades from primary to higher secondary levels.
A cornerstone of the update is the formal inclusion of Nazra Quran and Quran-with-translation in the syllabus for Classes 1 through 12, reflecting an effort to strengthen religious education alongside contemporary learning.
In tandem with traditional studies, the department is modernizing its digital education programs. New Computer Education textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 will replace outdated editions, aiming to equip students with relevant digital skills. Additionally, separate textbooks for Classes 6 to 12 focusing on the positive and responsible use of social media have been approved, addressing the challenges of the digital age.
This announcement comes shortly after Punjab’s large-scale curriculum update, which involves replacing 29 textbooks for middle and high school classes, with Class 9 seeing the most extensive changes. Punjab’s education authorities have already initiated preparations, notified schools, and coordinated with publishers to ensure timely availability of the revised materials.
Education experts say these coordinated reforms across provinces highlight a shift in regional priorities, aiming to balance traditional religious teachings with modern technological literacy and social media awareness.
