COMSTECH and PSU Forge Powerful Academic Alliance

A significant step toward strengthening international academic collaboration was taken as COMSTECH and Prince of Songkla University (PSU) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in higher education, science, technology, and innovation.

The signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, brought together senior academic leaders, diplomats, and institutional representatives from both sides. The event underscored a shared commitment to advancing global knowledge exchange and addressing contemporary challenges through collaborative research and education.

In his opening remarks, Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs at Prince of Songkla University, emphasized the growing importance of international academic partnerships. He highlighted how such collaborations can play a critical role in solving global issues through innovation, research, and cross-border knowledge sharing.

Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to fostering scientific cooperation among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He noted that expanding partnerships with globally recognized institutions remains a key priority in strengthening research ecosystems and academic excellence.

The ceremony was also attended by Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan, who welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism about its potential to deepen bilateral academic ties. He emphasized that the agreement would open new avenues for research collaboration, academic mobility, and institutional partnerships.

Under the MoU, both institutions have agreed to promote joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programmes, specialized training, innovation partnerships, and cooperation in emerging fields such as halal science. The agreement is also expected to facilitate broader academic engagement across COMSTECH’s network of institutions throughout the Muslim world.

The event concluded with a shared resolve from both parties to translate the agreement into tangible outcomes that contribute to scientific advancement, sustainable development, and long-term academic collaboration.
