Students from schools and colleges under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) have earned Huawei ICT certifications in emerging technology fields, highlighting the growing focus on digital skills in Islamabad’s public education system.
The students completed Huawei’s Summer ICT Training Programme, organised in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s ICT training initiative. The programme has provided students exposure to areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, 5G, computer networking, cloud technologies and other advanced ICT disciplines.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja distributed certificates and medals among high-achieving students at a ceremony held at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication on September 30. She interacted with the students about their training experiences and encouraged them to continue developing technology skills.
According to FDE, more than 50,000 students have enrolled in Huawei courses, reflecting the scale of the digital-skills initiative. The programme builds on a 2025 agreement between the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and Huawei to expand ICT training among students under FDE. The original initiative targeted 300,000 Pakistani youth, with an initial focus on AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies.
The Federal Education Ministry had earlier reported that around 15,000 students had enrolled in the certified programme during its initial implementation phase, while Huawei and FDE also trained faculty members to support the programme.
Six students were specifically recognised for completing a high number of Huawei certifications. Ayesha Zaib of Class 9 completed 33 certifications, followed by Hifsa Waqas and Hadia Zarnab with 28 each, Laiba Nadeem and Sajafah Farooq with 27 each, and Ayesha Mujtaba of Class 7 with 26 certifications.
Khawaja urged students to explore fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, software development and data science, stressing that technology skills will increasingly be relevant across sectors including education, healthcare, finance, agriculture and public services.
