HEC Launches Revamped Computer Science Curriculum

In a major step to modernize higher education, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched a completely revised Computer Science curriculum for 2025. The overhaul is designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping graduates with the skills needed for both global technology trends and Pakistan’s national digital transformation agenda.

The new framework introduces over 14 advanced specializations, moving beyond traditional coursework to include cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Quantum Computing. A key feature of the update is the integration of a professional certification component, ensuring that students graduate with both a degree and industry-recognized credentials to enhance their employability.

Further expanding opportunities for students, the HEC has formally recognized the Associate Degree in Computing as a skills-based qualification, creating more flexible pathways for professional advancement.

Developed through a collaborative effort involving academia, industry leaders, and government bodies, the curriculum emphasizes practical, hands-on experience. It mandates significant final-year projects and real-world field experience, in strict alignment with the Undergraduate Education Policy 2023.
