HEC and PMYP Revive Laptop Scheme 2025 to Empower Students

In a landmark effort to strengthen digital learning and promote academic excellence, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP) have relaunched the Laptop Scheme for 2025. The initiative aims to distribute around 100,000 free laptops to high-achieving yet financially disadvantaged students enrolled in public universities across Pakistan.

The scheme is designed to bridge the digital divide by equipping students with essential tools for modern education. With laptops in hand, students will be better positioned to engage in online learning, conduct research, and enhance their digital literacy, enabling them to study and work efficiently from anywhere.

“This program is a cornerstone of our commitment to a ‘Digital Pakistan’,” a representative from the PM Youth Program stated. “It ensures that financial challenges do not hinder a student’s educational journey. We are empowering young Pakistanis with the technology they need to compete on a global scale.”

The program targets students enrolled in HEC-recognized public universities, including those pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, MPhil, and PhD degrees. To qualify, applicants must have at least 60% marks or a 2.8 CGPA, not have received a laptop in earlier phases, and be officially enrolled as of October 2025. This year’s scheme also welcomes students from the Virtual University who meet the eligibility criteria.

Applicants are required to submit their CNIC or B-Form, proof of university enrollment, latest transcripts, and a passport-sized photograph through the official online portal at www.pmyp.gov.pk under the “Laptop Scheme 2025” section. The entire process, from registration to document submission, is digital.

Owing to overwhelming interest, authorities extended the application deadline to accommodate more students. Selection will be merit-based, and successful candidates will receive notifications via SMS or email. The final merit lists are expected before the end of October 2025.

The revived Laptop Scheme has drawn widespread praise for its role in democratizing access to technology and learning resources. For countless students, a government-provided laptop removes a major financial hurdle and opens doors to educational growth, research, and innovation.
