The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a public warning about fraudulent activities involving imposters claiming to be affiliated with the organization. According to the alert, some individuals are making scam calls to obtain personal information for the attestation or re-verification of academic documents. The HEC emphasized that it does not authorize any representatives or agents for these services.
Key points from the alert include:
- Imposters are posing as HEC agents and demanding excessive fees for degree verification services that surpass the official HEC charges.
- Fraudulent social media pages have emerged, offering fake degree verification services.
- The public is strongly advised to ignore any calls or social media messages claiming to provide HEC attestation services.
The HEC clarified that it does not make direct calls or contact individuals for attestation services. To verify degrees, individuals should only use the official HEC attestation portal at eservices.hec.gov.pk or visit the HEC website at www.hec.gov.pk.
Individuals are encouraged to report scam calls to their telecom operators or file a complaint with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through their website at www.pta.gov.pk or by calling the toll-free number 0800-55055. In cases of financial fraud, individuals should contact the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) at cpd.helpdesk@sbp.org.pk.
The HEC also urged the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing personal information with unauthorized individuals or through fraudulent online platforms.
