The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi, has entered into a landmark educational and research partnership with Jamia Binoria Alamia to strengthen halal certification, scientific testing, and interdisciplinary research in Pakistan.
Under the agreement, ICCBS and Jamia Binoria Alamia will collaborate to integrate scientific expertise with Islamic jurisprudence, aiming to promote credible, standardized, and internationally acceptable research for the growing halal industry. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Professor Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director ICCBS, University of Karachi, and Sheikh Farhan Naeem, Deputy Mohtamim of Jamia Binoria Alamia.
The collaboration focuses on halal certification, laboratory testing, applied research, and professional training. Both institutions will jointly develop training programs to enhance the skills of faculty members, researchers, and halal auditors. Students will also gain hands-on exposure to Halal Jurisprudence and modern scientific testing methodologies through practical sessions, seminars, workshops, and halal audits.
Officials said the partnership reflects ICCBS’s commitment to applied, impact-driven research that supports national needs while meeting global standards. By combining ICCBS’s internationally recognized scientific infrastructure with Jamia Binoria Alamia’s expertise in halal fiqh, the initiative is expected to strengthen consumer confidence and improve the reliability of halal-certified products at both national and international levels.
The agreement is also expected to contribute to the development of a robust halal service ecosystem in Pakistan, positioning the country as a credible player in the global halal market.

The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Ghulam Musharraf (In-charge, HCTRS, ICCBS, University of Karachi), Dr. Mufti Syed Arif Ali Shah (General Manager, HCTRS, ICCBS), Shahid Naveed, Director Affiliation and Accreditation and Deputy Registrar Adam Institute, Jamia Binoria Alamia, Maulana Hammad Asjad, Director Public Relations, Jamia Binoria Alamia, along with other officials and faculty members.
