ICCBS Scholar Wins Best Oral Presentation Award

In a remarkable academic achievement, Iqra Sahibdad, a PhD student at the Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi, has won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 11th International Conference on Public Health held recently in Bangkok, Thailand, and virtually.

A spokesperson for the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, announced that Iqra is conducting her doctoral research under the supervision of Prof Dr Asmat Salim. Her award-winning presentation, titled “Targeting Hypoxic Wounds with Mesenchymal Stem Cell Seeded Hydrogel,” was recognized for its innovation and scientific impact. She had previously earned her M.Phil. in Molecular Medicine under the guidance of Dr Irfan Khan.

Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, congratulated Iqra and her supervisor on this accomplishment, describing it as a proud moment not only for ICCBS and the University of Karachi but also for Pakistan.

The prestigious conference attracted over 1,000 participants, both online and onsite, from nearly 50 countries, including China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Italy, Bangladesh, Australia, France, Indonesia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This year’s theme focused on “Redefining Public Health: Harnessing Innovation, Collaboration, and Equity for a Resilient Public Health System.”

Iqra Sahibdad’s presentation was delivered in the Non-Communicable Diseases session, where she was declared the overall best presenter among all virtual participants, making her achievement a significant milestone in Pakistan’s growing contribution to global health research.
