Pakistan has achieved a remarkable milestone in international scientific education by securing one gold and two silver medals at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO2026) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Ali of Government College University (GCU), Lahore, won the gold medal for Pakistan, delivering an outstanding performance against talented participants from around the world. Muhammad Usman of F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, secured silver medals, further strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global nuclear science competition.
Another member of Pakistan’s national delegation, Syed Shuja Haider of Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also participated in the competition.
The Pakistani team was selected and trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), reflecting the country’s efforts to identify and develop young talent in nuclear science and related fields.
Held in Jeddah from August 2 to 7, the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad brought together nearly 120 students and experts from 19 countries. Participants represented countries including China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Olympiad provides an international platform for young students to demonstrate their knowledge, problem-solving abilities and understanding of nuclear science while engaging with peers and experts from around the world.
Pakistan’s strong medal haul comes as another significant achievement for the country’s emerging scientific talent. The success also highlights the importance of specialized training and institutional support in preparing Pakistani students for international academic competitions.
Adding further significance to Pakistan’s achievement, the country has been selected to host the fourth International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027. The decision marks a major opportunity for Pakistan to showcase its scientific capabilities and provide its young researchers and students with greater exposure to the international scientific community.
