The University of Management and Technology (UMT) has announced plans to launch Pakistan’s first four-year degree program in blockchain technology, reflecting the institution’s commitment to equipping youth with cutting-edge digital skills.
The announcement was made during a seminar titled “Shaping Pakistan’s Blockchain Future”, organized by UMT’s National Incubation and Blockchain Center (NIBC). The event brought together industry leaders, researchers, faculty, and students to explore blockchain’s potential in transforming Pakistan’s digital landscape.
The seminar was presided over by UMT Provost, Dr Asghar Zaidi, who revealed that the School of Systems and Technology will soon introduce a comprehensive blockchain degree, in addition to specialized nano-degree certifications. “Pakistani youth possess immense potential to shape the digital future. Academia-industry collaboration is the need of the hour, and UMT is bridging this gap by producing quality entrepreneurs,” he remarked.
Distinguished speakers included Mujab Ramzan, Founder of Optimus Fox, alongside Rosheel Baig and Muhammad Waqas, who discussed blockchain fundamentals, real-world applications, and industry prospects.
Ramzan, highlighting the importance of collaboration, expressed pride in partnering with UMT. “This partnership between academia and industry will produce high-quality products and opportunities. Students should aim to become entrepreneurs, not just job seekers, to drive Pakistan’s economic progress,” he said.
On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UMT and Optimus Fox to strengthen cooperation in blockchain research, training, and innovation. The agreement was formalized by Dr Zaidi and Ramzan.

The ceremony concluded with Dr Zaidi presenting souvenirs to the guests in recognition of their contributions. With NIBC’s growing initiatives, UMT aims to establish itself as a leading hub for blockchain research, training, and entrepreneurship in Pakistan.
