The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is planning to make some changes in their policy to dispense permissions for the establishment of new universities in the country due to financial vulnerabilities.
The government despite its claims of furthering the cause of higher education in the country has planned a sweeping cut of 40 percent in the funding of the Higher Education Commission in the coming fiscal year.
A special meeting of the Higher Education Commission was held on Friday under the Chairmanship of HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri, to review implications of the ongoing fiscal crisis faced by the higher education sector, in particular budget-cuts for FY 2019-20.
