Abu Dhabi Unveils New Code of Professional Conduct

Abu Dhabi has unveiled a comprehensive Code of Professional Ethics for Teachers, setting a unified framework to ensure integrity, professionalism, and respect across all schools regulated by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).

The newly launched code defines clear expectations for educators’ conduct, promoting a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. It explicitly prohibits any form of discrimination or harassment based on religion, ethnicity, gender, or social status, as well as the promotion of extremism, racism, or bullying. Teachers are also barred from spreading false information, sharing confidential data without consent, or misrepresenting their qualifications.

In addition, the code emphasizes adherence to school dress codes and cultural norms, reinforcing the importance of maintaining professional and ethical standards in both appearance and behavior.

School leaders across the emirate are already integrating these principles into their daily operations. Jan Stipek, Principal of Raha International School, noted that ethics are embedded in every stage of school life—from recruitment to classroom interaction. “Professionalism for us is not only about teaching quality but also about communication, respect, and collaboration,” he said.

To uphold these standards, schools are rolling out comprehensive training and monitoring systems. Anila Anand, HR Manager at Shining Star International School, shared that mentorship programs and the mandatory signing of conduct codes are now part of staff induction processes.

Accountability forms a cornerstone of the new framework. Principal Abhilasha Singh explained that any violations are formally investigated. “Measures range from retraining to disciplinary action, with serious cases escalated to ADEK,” she added.
