The Center for Learning and Teaching at Forman Christian College University (FCCU) organized its two-day annual Faculty Retreat on August 18–19 under the theme “Building Bridges,” aimed at fostering reflection, collaboration, and dialogue across diverse academic and professional spheres.
The retreat opened with wellness-centered sessions, including “Reclaiming Balance: Pathways to Integrative Harmony,” facilitated by Mariam Khalid, with contributions from Dr Samia Raazi on integrative medicine and physical wellness demonstrations by Saira and Bilal Muneer. Participants also engaged in an interactive laughter therapy session led by Ayesha Majid Lari from Soul Sanctuary.
FCCU’s leadership, including Rector Dr Jonathan Addleton, Vice Rector Dr Douglas Trimble, and Associate Vice Rector Dr Gloria Calib, shared updates on institutional priorities, accreditation progress, and expectations for the upcoming academic year.
A major highlight of the event was the keynote panel on “Academia–Workplace Linkages: Emerging Skills for the Future Workforce,” graced by Dr Arfa Sayeda Zahra. Industry leaders and academics, including Aezaz Hussain of Systems Limited, climate finance expert Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, and filmmaker Sarmad Khoosat, underscored the need for universities to go beyond content delivery and focus on equipping graduates with practical skills, adaptability, and creativity to meet evolving workforce demands.
Another important discussion, “Reimagining Organizational Rigor: From Silos to Synergy,” brought together prominent figures such as Dr Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS, and Dr Mariam Chughtai, who emphasized breaking down institutional silos and fostering inclusivity in academic culture. The retreat also included sessions on academic freedom, research integrity, and clarity on university processes such as promotions, renewals, and policy expectations.
