HEC Acts Tough on Unapproved Programs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has once again sounded the alarm on the dangers of enrolling in unrecognized and outdated academic programs, urging students and institutions to comply strictly with its approved degree framework.

In a recent circular, the HEC categorically banned admissions to the discontinued two-year BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs, warning that degrees from these programs will neither be recognized nor attested. The commission emphasized that only HEC-accredited undergraduate, MPhil, and PhD programs are considered valid for admission and future employment or academic pursuits.

“Students, parents, and institutions are strongly advised against seeking or offering admissions in these outdated programs,” the HEC stated. The commission noted with concern that some universities and colleges continue to promote these phased-out courses, putting unaware students at serious risk.

The HEC’s warning serves as a stern reminder that degrees obtained from unauthorized or unrecognized programs carry no academic or professional value, potentially jeopardizing students’ futures. Stakeholders are urged to verify program accreditation through official HEC channels before applying or admitting students.
