The Government of Punjab has approved the recruitment of serving and retired military personnel as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) to strengthen oversight of educational institutions across 22 districts of the province.
The recruitment process is already underway, with the officers to be appointed through the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) on one-year contracts. Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary of Rs60,000, along with facilities and benefits available under Education Department rules.
The MEOs will be responsible for field monitoring of educational institutions, and official motorcycles will be provided to facilitate their visits. Their contracts may be extended after the completion of the initial one-year period, subject to performance and government requirements.
The government has invited applications from retired and serving GCOs and NCOs until September 7. Applicants must be between 30 and 55 years of age, hold at least a graduation degree and possess a Punjab domicile. Candidates with IT skills and strong physical fitness will be given preference.
The first phase of the recruitment drive will see the appointment of 28 MEOs, including 21 military personnel and seven civilians. Recruitment for other districts is planned under the second phase.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Department has also moved to extend the contracts of around 150,000 School Teaching Interns (STIs) currently working in schools under temporary, daily-wage arrangements.

A proposal seeking Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s approval for a nine-month extension has been submitted. If approved, the extension will allow the STIs to continue working until March 2027, covering the remainder of the current academic session. Officials said a formal notification regarding the extension will be issued after approval from the chief minister.
