Schools in Karachi Reopen After Flood Disruptions

Private schools across Karachi reopened on Thursday after being shut for several days due to urban flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains. The All Private Schools Management Association Sindh (APSMA) confirmed the resumption of classes and announced that Saturdays will now be observed as regular academic days to make up for the significant loss of instructional time.

APSMA Chairman Syed Tariq Shah said the adjustment was necessary to recover crucial learning hours lost amid repeated weather-related closures this season. The city has been reeling under intense rainfall that submerged roads, inundated residential areas, and raised water levels in the Malir and Lyari rivers, creating widespread disruption.

The Sindh government had earlier ordered the closure of all schools in the Karachi Division following alerts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department warning of heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. With conditions now improving, schools are focusing on covering the academic gap while the city continues to recover from the flooding’s impact.
