The Consul General of China, Sun Yan, visited the University of Management and Technology (UMT) on April 15, 2026, where he held a high-level meeting with Chairman and President Ibrahim Hasan Murad to advance cooperation between Pakistan and China in education, technology, and industry.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral engagement across academic collaboration, technological integration, and business partnerships. Both sides described the discussions as a constructive step toward deepening Pakistan-China relations and fostering long-term institutional linkages.
During the meeting, Ibrahim Hasan Murad highlighted UMT’s academic growth, research initiatives, and institutional achievements. He emphasized the importance of Chinese technology and modern equipment in accelerating progress within Pakistan’s education and industrial sectors. He noted that UMT continues to contribute to national development through quality education, scholarships, and research opportunities.
Murad also underscored the university’s leading role in promoting Chinese language education, revealing that over 50,000 students have successfully completed Chinese language programs at UMT, reflecting a growing academic and cultural bridge between the two nations.
Consul General Sun Yan commended UMT’s contributions to higher education and its efforts in building strong academic ties with China. He expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation would not only strengthen bilateral relations but also create new opportunities for regional development, stability, and economic growth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides exchanged souvenirs as a gesture of goodwill and mutual respect.
Following the discussions, the Consul General attended a special seminar organized by the UMT School of Liberal Arts to commemorate 75 years of Pakistan-China friendship. The event brought together senior leadership, including Rector Dr. Asif Raza, faculty members, and students.
Addressing the seminar, Dr. Asif Raza emphasized China’s consistent support for Pakistan during challenging times, describing the relationship as deeply rooted and enduring. Sun Yan echoed these sentiments, calling the Pakistan-China friendship timeless and reaffirming his commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
The seminar also featured a panel discussion centered on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting their role in regional connectivity and economic cooperation.

The event concluded with vibrant cultural activities showcasing Chinese heritage, including traditional attire, tea stalls, calligraphy displays, and a noodle festival.
