UMT Shines at National Weightlifting Championship 2026

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) delivered a remarkable performance at the National Weightlifting Championship 2026, securing six gold and four silver medals to emerge as one of the top-performing institutions while helping the Higher Education Commission (HEC) clinch the Overall Championship Trophy in both the men’s and women’s categories.

A total of 10 UMT weightlifters represented HEC during the championship, showcasing exceptional strength, skill and determination throughout the competition. Their outstanding performances established a new benchmark for university sports and reinforced UMT’s growing reputation in weightlifting at the national level.

Congratulating the UMT family, Chairman and President of UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad praised the athletes, coaches and support staff for their dedication and hard work. He said the university’s weightlifters had brought pride not only to UMT but also to the Higher Education Commission through their exceptional achievements on the national stage.

Murad said UMT remains committed to promoting excellence in both academics and sports by providing modern training facilities, professional coaching and an environment that supports the holistic development of talented athletes. He added that the university would continue investing in sports to create greater opportunities for young people to excel alongside their academic pursuits.

In the women’s competitions, Maham Qasim, Arfa Mushtaq, Aqsa Bashir, Zoha Javed and Fiza Khokhar were among the athletes who delivered impressive performances. In the men’s events, Sameer Butt, Noor Mustafa, Ahmad Butt, Syed Uzair and Mujahid Rasool played a decisive role in helping HEC secure the overall championship through their medal-winning performances.

HEC Team Manager and UMT Sports Incharge also played a significant role in the team’s success by overseeing operational affairs, guiding the athletes and providing continuous support throughout the championship.

Meanwhile, HEC Chairman Dr Niaz Ahmad and HEC Director General Sports Rizwan Shaukat congratulated UMT on its outstanding achievement. Dr Niaz Ahmad credited the historic success to the unwavering commitment of the UMT management, coaches, support staff and athletes, saying their teamwork and dedication made the victory possible.

He expressed confidence that the UMT Markhors would continue to achieve greater success at both national and international levels, bringing further recognition to Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission through their sporting excellence.
