The University of Lahore (UoL) has taken a significant step toward environmental sustainability with the launch of its Air Quality Index (AQI) Monitoring System at the Main Campus. The initiative, jointly developed by the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Office of Sustainability, will provide real-time monitoring of air quality and climatic conditions, helping raise awareness and encourage community engagement on pressing environmental challenges.
The system was formally inaugurated by Prof Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Rector of UOL, alongside Ms Ammara Awais, Director of the Office of Sustainability. On the occasion, Prof Dr Rab Nawaz, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, and Mr Muhammad Saad Zafar, Assistant Director of the Office of Sustainability, presented comprehensive briefings on the features and significance of the system. They highlighted its potential to contribute not only to academic research but also to wider public awareness on air pollution and climate resilience.
Senior university officials including Mr Ali Aslam, Registrar; Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Director ORIC; Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmad, Dean of Allied Health Sciences; Prof Dr Ibrar Hussain, Dean of CS⁢ and Mr Ali Raza, Assistant Manager QEC, attended the event alongside faculty members and staff.

By introducing the AQI Monitoring System, UOL has reinforced its commitment to sustainable practices and positioned itself as a leading academic institution in addressing environmental and public health concerns. The initiative is expected to play a vital role in fostering dialogue, research, and policy recommendations on air quality management in Pakistan.
