The Government of Sindh has appointed Prof Dr Wasim Qazi as Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi (UoK) for a four-year term with immediate effect.
The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Universities & Boards Department, Government of Sindh, under Section 13(1) of the University of Karachi Act, 1972, as amended by the Sindh Universities and Institutes Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Prof Dr Wasim Qazi is a senior educationist and higher education administrator with more than three decades of academic and leadership experience. He is currently serving as the founding Vice Chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University.
Before joining Karachi Metropolitan University, Qazi served as President and Vice Chancellor of Iqra University Karachi, where he was involved in strengthening academic programmes, research, faculty development and institutional governance.
His career also includes academic and leadership positions at Hamdard University, the University of Lahore and the University of Faisalabad. He has additionally contributed to national higher education bodies, including the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.

Qazi now takes charge of the University of Karachi, one of Pakistan’s major public-sector universities, with extensive experience in academic leadership, institutional development and higher education administration.
