JSMU Inaugurates Dental Unit and Laboratory Collection Point at Karachi Press Club

Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) proudly introduced the inaugural Dental Unit and Laboratory Collection Point at the esteemed Karachi Press Club (KPC), marking a significant milestone in healthcare accessibility. The event was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a momentous inaugural ceremony, attended by JSMU faculty members and the governing body of KPC.

The newly unveiled facility, christened the Shabana Shafiq Dental Clinic, stands as a lasting tribute to the esteemed health reporter from a leading newspaper.

Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz, the Caretaker Health Minister of Sindh, underscored his dedication to societal well-being by inaugurating the dental clinic and laboratory collection point. Dr. Niaz emphasized the pivotal role of ensuring accessible and high-quality healthcare for journalists. Commending the continuous efforts of JSMU’s Vice Chancellor in providing assistance to those in need, he declared, “We have devised comprehensive plans to enhance conditions at government hospitals, ensuring satisfactory services for the public during this caretaker setup.”

In his address, Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor of JSMU, conveyed, “At JSMU, we believe in the transformative power of healthcare and its profound impact on society. It is with immense pleasure that we announce the commencement of free dental services for journalists and their families at the Karachi Press Club.” Reflecting on his personal connection to journalism, he added, “Coming from a family of journalists, I understand the challenges faced by this community.

While dental treatments can be financially burdensome, JSMU, in a spirit of community service, extends its offerings by providing dental and laboratory services at the KPC premises. Here, a 40% discount on laboratory services, free dental diagnostic treatments, and scaling services will be available, followed by a 50% discount on subsequent dental treatments at SIOHS, JSMU.”

Dr. Azam Khan, Registrar of JSMU, affirmed, “We recognize the invaluable role played by journalists in informing and enlightening our community. It is our duty to ensure their well-being.” Through this initiative, JSMU aims to provide accessible and high-quality dental care, prioritizing the health and happiness of those who dedicate themselves to keeping society informed. Dr. Khan extended an invitation to journalists and their families to benefit from this service, emphasizing the collective effort to build a healthier future.

Earlier in the proceedings, Shoaib Ahmed, Secretary of KPC, expressed gratitude for JSMU’s services and acknowledged Dr. Memon for providing a fee waiver for one seat in the MBBS Program (100% fee waiver) and one seat in the BDS Program (50% fee waiver). He also recognized the financial support extended to the open merit category for other programs, specifically available to the children of registered KPC members who qualify under the open merit category.

Special recognition was given to Tufail Ahmed, Secretary of KPC’s Health Committee, for his tireless efforts in translating the plan into reality. In attendance were key figures, including In charge of JSMU Diagnostic Laboratory Prof Mehmood Hussain, Principal of SIOHS-JSMU Prof Zubair Abbasi, Vice Principal Dr. Wasif Iqbal, head of Community Dentistry Dr. Marium Azfar, and Laboratory Manager Hasnain.
