Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin jointly attended the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, signaling a new phase in bilateral cooperation focused on education, innovation, and youth exchanges.
Speaking at the ceremony, Xi Jinping emphasized that educational cooperation between China and Russia has expanded significantly over the years and has become an important pillar of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era. He noted that the initiative provides a valuable opportunity for both sides to deepen consensus, broaden cooperation areas, and elevate collaboration to a higher level.
Xi stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in talent development and advancing joint research in frontier science and technology. He said such collaboration would support innovation-driven growth and contribute to the long-term development goals of both nations.
The Chinese president also highlighted the role of cultural and educational exchanges in promoting mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Russia. He called for greater sharing of educational governance experience and stronger people-to-people ties to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described the launch of the Russia-China Years of Education as a milestone in bilateral relations. He said educational cooperation would help strengthen understanding among younger generations and ensure that the friendship between Russia and China continues for generations to come.
Putin added that Moscow is prepared to work closely with Beijing to deepen educational collaboration and promote stronger bilateral relations through academic and cultural engagement.
