The Institute of Art and Design at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) hosted a vibrant Textile Design Degree Show, unveiling the final thesis projects of BS Textile Design students. The exhibition highlighted the students’ artistic innovation, with a diverse range of textile works combining traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam inaugurated the exhibition, praising the students for their creative expression and forward-thinking designs. He was accompanied by Ms Tehmina Afzal, Incharge of the Institute of Art and Design, and Ms Nighat Shahid from the Women Chamber of Commerce, Faisalabad, along with faculty members and other prominent guests.
The degree show featured an eclectic mix of textile pieces, including home décor items, industrial textile prototypes, Islamic ornamental designs, hand embroidery, handmade carpets, zari stitch work, child art, and creations inspired by childhood nostalgia. Each display reflected the students’ mastery of both form and function, underscoring their readiness to enter the professional world.
Speaking at the event, Dr Rauf-i-Azam emphasized the importance of aligning academic training with industrial needs, especially in a textile-driven city like Faisalabad. “Our students have proven they possess the creativity and technical skills needed to thrive in the textile sector,” he said. He also encouraged the commercial sector to engage with young designers through internships and employment opportunities.
The Vice Chancellor called for stronger academia-industry linkages to ensure that graduates can make meaningful contributions to the economy. He highlighted the show as a powerful demonstration of how educational institutions can serve as incubators of innovation for national development.
