In a significant step toward advancing legal education and professional capacity in Pakistan, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Legal Education (DLE). The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of corporate, company, and insurance law through structured training programs.
The initiative is designed to upskill legal professionals—including law students, academics, practicing lawyers, and prosecutors—by providing them with specialized legal education tailored to the evolving demands of the financial and corporate sectors.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar graced the MoU signing ceremony as chief guest. SECP Chairperson Akif Saeed, along with Commissioners Zeeshan Rehman Khattak, Muzzafar Ahmed Mirza, and Mujtaba Ahmad Lodhi, were present at the event. Also in attendance were DLE Director Barrister Osama Malik, SECP Executive Director Mubasher Saeed Saddozai, and senior members of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tarar lauded the initiative as a much-needed collaboration that will bridge the gap between regulatory frameworks and legal practice. “In an era of rapid financial transformation, aligning our legal training with international standards is imperative,” he said.
SECP Chairperson Akif Saeed emphasized the Commission’s ongoing efforts to promote legal excellence in financial governance and compliance. “This partnership reflects our commitment to strengthening the legal foundations of Pakistan’s capital markets and corporate sector,” he noted.
The DLE-SECP partnership is expected to roll out a series of certification courses, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives over the coming months, focusing on areas like financial regulations, corporate governance, and dispute resolution.
