Sindh Launches Major English Training Drive with British Council

The British Council and the School Education and Literacy Department (SELD) of the Sindh Government have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to launch a transformative initiative aimed at improving English language education in public schools across the province.

Under this new partnership, the British Council’s “English as a Subject for Teachers and Educators (EaSTE)” programme will provide professional training to 30,000 newly recruited Primary School Teachers (PSTs) and Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs). The initiative will equip educators with modern, inclusive, and multilingual teaching methods, ultimately benefiting approximately 2 million children in Sindh.

The collaboration will also introduce a scalable digital Learning Management System (LMS) and train 1,000 experienced teachers as mentors to offer continuous support to their peers.

James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council Pakistan, stated: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to Sindh’s education sector. Our goal to empower 30,000 teachers and 2 million students marks a significant step forward in enhancing learning outcomes.”

Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh’s Education Minister, emphasized: “Quality education is our priority. This initiative ensures our teachers are equipped with effective, culturally relevant teaching strategies, moving beyond recruitment to sustainable professional development.”

Building on the EaSTE programme’s success in Punjab, where it trained over 140,000 teachers, this partnership combines global expertise with local insights to create a scalable and sustainable model for teacher development in Sindh.
