HEC to Launch Blockchain-Based Degree Attestation System by June 2026

In a major step toward digital transformation in higher education, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced plans to introduce the first phase of a blockchain-powered degree attestation system by June 2026. The initiative aims to modernize the verification process, making it more secure, efficient, and accessible for students and institutions nationwide.

According to official details, the system is designed to enhance transparency and streamline service delivery in attestation and equivalence procedures currently managed by the commission. By leveraging blockchain technology, HEC intends to address long-standing challenges such as delays, manual processing, and risks of document tampering.

The upcoming platform will integrate academic records from universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) into a centralized digital framework. This integration is expected to significantly reduce the need for physical visits to universities, allowing students to complete verification processes remotely.

Under the proposed mechanism, universities and HEIs will receive dedicated digital dashboards to verify and validate academic records submitted by applicants. Once the verification is completed at the institutional level, cases will be automatically forwarded to HEC for final attestation, minimizing administrative bottlenecks.

After HEC’s approval, academic credentials will be stored on the blockchain as secure digital records. Students will be able to access these credentials online and share them with employers, academic institutions, or other authorities for instant verification, eliminating the need for repeated attestations.

Officials believe the blockchain-based system will play a critical role in curbing document forgery and fraud while improving overall efficiency in credential management. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the credibility and global recognition of Pakistani academic qualifications.
