IBA Alumni Excellence Awards 2024 Inspire Next Generation of Leaders

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi hosted the IBA Alumni Excellence Awards 2024, honoring outstanding graduates who have made remarkable contributions across diverse professional fields.

Despite cloudy skies, the ceremony drew an impressive turnout of alumni, united in celebrating peers whose achievements have brought recognition to both IBA and Pakistan. The awards highlighted excellence in areas including energy, corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, diversity and inclusion, banking, and sports.

The event was hosted by Ms Malahat Awan, Director of Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization and Corporate Affairs at IBA. In his address, Dr. S. Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director of IBA Karachi, emphasized that the institute’s legacy extends far beyond its classrooms. He applauded the success stories of alumni who have excelled globally while urging graduates to remain connected to their alma mater. Mr Mohammed Sohail, CEO of Topline Securities Limited and IBA’s alumni representative on the Board of Governors, also shared recent initiatives to foster stronger engagement within the global alumni community through the establishment of new chapters.

The 2024 award winners included Ms Azima Dhanjee, Co-Founder of ConnectHear from the Class of 2020; Mr Hamza Abdul Rauf, CEO of Telemart from the Class of 2020; Mr Tabarak Ur Rehman Chaudhry from the Class of 2018; Dr Muhammad Imran, Group Head of Islamic Banking at Bank Alfalah Limited from the Class of 1998; Syed Taha, Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil from the Class of 1998; Mr Farrukh Sabzwari, CEO of the Pakistan Stock Exchange from the Class of 1992; Mr Muhammad Nassir Salim, President and CEO of Habib Bank Limited from the Class of 1986; and Mr Tariq Kirmani, Chairman of Gas & Oil Pakistan Limited and Pakistan Refinery Limited from the Class of 1968. Each of these recipients has excelled in their respective fields and played a role in placing IBA and Pakistan on the global map through their accomplishments.

The ceremony was attended by leading figures from the corporate, financial, and philanthropic sectors, including Mr Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Chairman of AKD Group; Mr Muhammad Zubair, former Governor of Sindh; and Mr Mushtaq Chhapra, Founder of The Citizens Foundation, along with several CEOs of major organizations. Faculty members, staff, and members of the IBA Board of Governors were also present.
